A powerful original oil painting by Scarlett Raven, this work forms part of The Danger Tree—the final collection from a groundbreaking augmented reality project created in collaboration with digital artist Marc Marot. The series tells the immersive and emotional stories of World War One soldiers, brought to life through layers of digital artistry featuring poetry, animation, music, and voiceovers by acclaimed actors such as Sean Bean and Christopher Eccleston.
Named after the lone tree that remained standing amid the battlefield devastation, The Danger Tree draws inspiration from legendary war poets Wilfred Owen, Siegfried Sassoon, and Rupert Brooke. Scarlett paints instinctively, letting texture and movement lead the way: “The paint is then thrown on, splattered and flicked. When it lands, it captures the movement of flowers blowing in the wind.”
With the use of augmented reality, viewers can unlock the hidden creative journey by using their smartphone to strip away layers of paint and reveal the poetry, sound, and emotion embedded beneath each piece.
