“Fired Sky” is a powerful celebration of nature’s drama and impermanence. Capturing the final moments of twilight, the piece immerses the viewer in a sky ablaze with fiery oranges, deep reds, and molten golds, blending into purples and inky shadows. The bold use of colour and texture conveys a striking sense of movement, as if the clouds themselves are shifting before your eyes.

Painted with sweeping, expressive brushstrokes, the work evokes the energy of a sky in transition—restless, vivid, and alive. There is a timeless quality to the scene, reminiscent of Romantic landscapes, where nature’s grandeur mirrors inner emotion. Each viewing offers something new: a shape, a light, a feeling just beyond reach.

Note: When moved, a slight noise may be heard where the glass touches the frame, suggesting a small gap has formed.

Richard is a fine artist renowned for his extraordinary reverse glass paintings—atmospheric landscapes so detailed they’re often mistaken for photographs. A Fine Art graduate and winner of the Daily Mail‘s “Artist of the Year” award in 1992, Richard took an unconventional path, first building a career in international motorsport before returning to painting after a life-changing accident.

Inspired by the skies and landscapes he encountered around the world—from Iceland to Thailand, Norway to Scotland—his works capture the beauty and unpredictability of nature. Using a unique technique of painting in reverse on glass, Richard manipulates light and detail with remarkable precision, creating pieces that seem to glow from within.

Each artwork is painted entirely by hand in his Wimbledon studio, where Richard pushes the boundaries of his medium with custom-made tools and a perfectionist’s eye for detail. Often, his family is subtly woven into the scenes through symbolic elements like birds or stars—reminders of the personal connection behind every piece.

As the only artist working in this style today, Richard stands at the forefront of a tradition dating back to Roman times, reinventing glass art for the modern era.
