Born Juan Bayón Salado in Logroño, Spain, Jean Salabet began his artistic journey in Bilbao, where he painted under the names Bayón and later Bay Sala. Exhibiting across Spain in the 1940s, he gained recognition for his skillful depictions of everyday life. In 1950, he moved to Paris and adopted the name Jean Salabet, immersing himself in the vibrant Montmartre art scene and showcasing his work in notable galleries.

Salabet is best known for his lively Parisian cityscapes, capturing streets, markets, and landmarks with a rich color palette and dynamic compositions. His work resonates with the energy of the city, drawing comparisons to artists such as Jules Herve, Antoine Blanchard, and Edouard Cortes. After returning to Bilbao in 1969, he continued painting until his death in 1995, leaving behind a legacy that celebrates the charm and vitality of urban life.
