Guy Gladwell (1946–2014) was a British painter renowned for his emotive seascapes and expressive figurative works.

Born in Nairobi, Kenya, he moved to Jersey in the Channel Islands at the age of nine.

There, he began his artistic journey under the mentorship of Sir Francis Barry and furthered his studies at Bournemouth Art College and the Sir John Cass School of Art, where he honed his skills in anatomy.

In 1969, Gladwell relocated to London and joined the Nicholas Treadwell Gallery, quickly establishing himself as a prominent seascape artist. His career flourished in the 1970s and 1980s, earning commissions to paint portraits of notable figures such as Michael Caine and Paul Simon. He exhibited extensively across Europe and America, with numerous appearances at the Royal Academy, positioning himself alongside contemporaries like David Hockney, Ronald Kitaj, and Keith Proctor.

In his later years, Gladwell resided in Suffolk, where he continued to draw inspiration from the picturesque coastline and its eccentric characters, culminating in a solo exhibition at Snape Maltings. His works remain sought after in the art market, with auction prices reflecting his enduring legacy.
