Framed original
David Cowden invites us to step into a world of quiet contemplation and introspection. Through the muted palette and elongated vertical composition, the piece evokes a sense of solitude as shadowy figures traverse an abstract, fog-like space. The figures, faceless and mysterious, are absorbed in their own worlds, inviting interpretations about the nature of human thought, urban anonymity, and the meditative pace of life. Cowden’s subtle interplay of light and shadow lends depth to this minimalist yet evocative scene, suggesting the unseen layers of thought that occupy us as we move through life.

David moved to the Midlands from Belfast in 1972. He has been drawing and painting from an early age and found he was at his happiest when doing so. David says that painting is in his blood, it is an extension of himself, almost an addiction. Give David a pencil, or brush, and the world disappears.
Inspiration comes from the hurly burly of city life, the urban world, men going to work, the way you can be in a crowd yet still alone. The every day world holds a fascination.
