Velia Newman
Velia Newman is an Australian contemporary artist renowned for her vibrant acrylic paintings that capture the essence of Australia’s natural beauty. Born in Sydney in 1969, she began her artistic journey at the age of nine, influenced by her artistic family. Although largely self-taught, Velia received guidance from her mother, Anita Newman, a well-known romantic impressionist artist.
Velia’s work is characterized by bold colours, dynamic textures, and a childlike sense of joy. Utilizing palette knives and innovative techniques, she creates three-dimensional representations of nature, focusing on indigenous Australian flora, beaches, and bushland. Her paintings evoke a sense of nostalgia and celebration of the natural world. Velia’s art has been exhibited alongside renowned Australian artists and is represented in galleries across Australia, Asia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
