Kélyne
Kélyne is a contemporary painter born in 1955, based in France. Often referred to as a “soul painter”, she was born in Vietnam, raised in Laos, and spent her early years in Algeria. Today, she continues to be inspired by the men, women, children, and environments from her early years as she paints. Her canvases, which she creates using collages and various materials, bear witness to their lives.
Kélyne worked closely with Opera Gallery in Paris, New York, Miami, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan from 1990 to 2012. She is now showing her work at The Signature African Art gallery in London and La Galerie Laetitia in St. Germain-en-Laye.
In her words she says: “Get to the point. A minimum of lines for a powerful expression, an emotion. Remove, scrape, rub the materials as much as possible to obtain an effect of lightness, if possible overwhelming. Get to the heart of the emotional event that provokes the act of.”
