John Hoar
John Hoar, (b.1947), is a prize-winning watercolourist who has had over 50 one-man shows in England and Ireland. His latest was in China in 2016 where he represented Britain at the 2nd International Watercolour Salon at Qingdao.
One of the most gifted watercolour artists in Britain today, John read Architecture at Cambridge and Brixton School of Building and studied drawing and painting under Ruskin Spear R.A. He began painting full time in 1980, specialising in architectural subjects, landscapes and marine and floral studies.
John has his own gallery in South Molton and holds two exhibitions a year as well as displaying work in galleries in England and Ireland. John won first prize for watercolour in 1988, the Donald Blake prize in 2003 and the Lincoln Joyce prize at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, in the same year.
