Frank McFadden
Frank mcfadden was born in 1972 in glasgow, and studied at the glasgow college of building and printing before beginning a career as a graphic artist.
During the nineties, however, mcfadden struggled with a drug habit that eventually prevented him from finding work and personal fulfilment. he continued to produce artwork while selling the big issue. mcfadden has referred to the time following his addiction as “coming back to life”.
Mcfadden’s apprenticeship with renowned glasgow artist peter howson has been a significant part of his artistic journey. mcfadden took a chance and approached howson in a cafe, and arranged a viewing of his work. howson was impressed by mcfadden’s style and skills, and took the younger artist under his wing.
Mcfadden worked to gain success in the art world, as well as overcoming his addiction. he has used his difficult experiences to create some of his most thought-provoking works.
Mcfadden and howson still share a studio, and have exhibited their artwork together a number of times both in scotland and abroad. mcfadden continues to find success on his own merit as well, and is currently known as one of scotland’s leading artists.
