Kieran Crowder
Kieran Crowder is an artist deeply engaged with the social and psychological dimensions of art, as well as the complex histories of violence and cultural transformation. His work is fueled by the profound question of what it means to be human in an increasingly barbaric world. Drawing and painting have been lifelong passions for Kieran, allowing him to explore these themes through a unique artistic lens.
Influenced by two pivotal mentors, Kieran’s artistic journey has been shaped significantly by their insights. Nick Samsworth helped him unlock the possibilities of paint, guiding him in his technical development and creative exploration. Meanwhile, Miles Richmond, a former pupil of the renowned David Bomberg and a founding member of the influential Borough Group, provided invaluable historical context and a personal interpretation of Bomberg’s teachings. Through their collaboration, Kieran delved into the concept of the “spirit in the mass,” a philosophical framework that has profoundly informed his own artistic practice.
Kieran’s work invites viewers to reflect on the intersections of art, humanity, and cultural change, encouraging a dialogue about resilience and understanding in a tumultuous world. Through his paintings, he seeks to navigate the complexities of existence, ultimately aiming to inspire connection and empathy in the face of adversity.
