Anish Kapoor
Anish Kapoor moved to the UK in the 1970s to pursue art. Born in Bombay to a Jewish mother and Hindu father, he initially studied engineering in Israel before deciding to become an artist. In 1973, he relocated to the UK to attend Hornsey College of Art, followed by the Chelsea School of Art and Design, and he has lived and worked in London ever since.
Kapoor’s practice often blurs the line between art and architecture. His freestanding sculptures and installations are frequently monumental and designed for public spaces. Notable works include Taratantata at the Baltic Flour Mills in Gateshead, a 35-metre-high sculpture crafted from polished stainless steel, and Marsyas at the Tate Modern in London, a 3,400-square-foot installation featuring three steel rings connected by a PVC membrane.
