Richard Adams

Richard Adams is a British artist born in Hampshire in 1960, renowned for his imaginative depictions of the English countryside. His work blends fantasy with rural life, often featuring whimsical scenes inspired by vernacular architecture, native flora and fauna, and the landscapes of the Cotswolds where he grew up. Trained in Graphic Design at Leicester Polytechnic, Adams began his career as a freelance illustrator in the 1980s before shifting toward fine art in the 1990s.

Adams’ vibrant varnished chalk pastels evoke nostalgia and whimsy, drawing comparisons to artists like Stanley Spencer while maintaining a unique wit and optimism. His works are held in private collections worldwide, and he continues to exhibit in galleries such as Hybrid Gallery in Devon, exploring the enchanting and fantastical aspects of rural life.
