Peter Lik

Peter Lik (b. 1959, Melbourne, Australia) is one of the most commercially successful landscape photographers in the world.

Self-taught, Lik began photographing the Australian countryside as a teenager, using a Kodak Brownie camera gifted by his parents. Driven by a desire to capture the raw beauty of nature, he later travelled extensively across the United States, developing his signature panoramic style. Lik’s mastery of light, colour, and composition has become his hallmark, producing vivid, immersive images of deserts, mountains, waterfalls, and coastlines.

In the early 2000s, Lik opened his own galleries in major US art destinations, including Las Vegas, Lahaina, and Key West, offering meticulously printed and framed limited edition photographs. His works are produced in extremely high-quality chromogenic prints on Fuji Crystal Archive paper, often face-mounted under acrylic for maximum depth and luminosity. Editions are capped, usually at 950, 450, or smaller,  increasing their scarcity.

Lik achieved global attention in 2014 when his photograph Phantom reportedly sold for $6.5 million, one of the highest prices ever claimed for a photograph. Today, his pieces remain sought-after by collectors who value both their visual drama and their exclusivity, with primary market prices reaching tens of thousands of pounds for large-scale editions.
